Checkmate!
» Bondage
Having to use a computer that I hadn’t booted in over three years has caused me to rediscover artifacts I’d forgotten. Like this gay leatherman magazine from the opening years of the millennium.
The first two covers are so-so.

The venue matches many a fantasy. But mostly I admire the discretion with which they position the cover price.
Since is back is unmarked you know the best part of the evening is yet to come.

Ah, that chair hits me dead on where bondage, submissiveness and masochism meet. To be so perfectly confined, so intimately and tightly subjugated … whew … be still my heart.
Beat me! Hurt me! I’ll buy you an ice cream.

I am really curious about this magazine. Do you have actual copies tucked away somewhere? And do you remember when this was soooo underground? I have clients who tell stories about trying to find kink in the 50’s, 60’s and even later. What they went through, and how guilty they sometimes felt, is just amazing. God Bless the Internet. God Bless Kink. And most of all, God Bless people like you.

No, I’m having to use a very old computer and there are a bunch of book and magazine scans that I saved years ago.
Slightly above ground kinky publishing got underway at least among gay men in the early and mid-70s. Once you are outside the norm it is easier to be open to and express other atypical desires.

I purchased a copy of Checkmate at Quimby’s Queer Bookstore, a delightful place that specializes in odd magazines and books, mostly zines and things.
At some point they bought out someone’s very extensive BDSM magazine collection. They only have 4 or so small shelves of BDSM magazines…but it was so astonishing to sit there picking up issue after issue of magazines like Marquis, O, and magazines I’d never heard of and many that no longer exist, knowing I would be forced to choose because I couldn’t possibly buy them all.
And that while the purchase I did make would be substantial, it would be about the same price as I’d pay for maybe 2 good magazines at the local Porn Shoppe that would be bundled, in plastic so I couldn’t thumb through and see what I was getting, with 2 other magazines that were horrible dreck.
I still have a couple of issues of Marquis in the original German that I haven’t read yet.
I should go back. I bet their supply isn’t exhausted yet.
