Castrated Sex
» Chastity
I don’t recall why I wrote about men for whom castration is the ultimate fantasy of total orgasm denial. Just that when I noted that castrated men are often sexually capable I got a couple of nasty notes.
From a recent Explainer column in Slate:
He can still have an erection. In general, castrated men experience a much-diminished sex drive, because their bodies have very low levels of the male hormone testosterone. This lowers the frequency, strength, and duration of erections, and can cause hot flashes, vertigo, loss of body hair, and breast growth. But depending on the individual, it may be possible for him to become aroused and even to ejaculate, although his erection may be modest and there won’t be any sperm in his semen. Even if a castrated man can’t maintain an erection, he can temporarily reverse the effect by taking testosterone …

This is interesting. Thanks for the pointer. More topically, I’ve occasionally fantasized about similar things that are in effect body modifications to entertain the idea of permanent sexual frustration as some kind of orgasm denial. However, instead of the typical castration fantasy, which seems backwards to me if you’re trying to talk about orgasm denial, my fantasies often take the shape of some form of penectomy, or other fantastical (i.e., in the realm of science fiction/fantasy) procedure that retains the sex drive and thus the desire to orgasm but removes most of the physical ability to orgasm.

A while back I stumbled upon the Eunuch Archive and was fascinated at the idea that these men were willing to undergo castration and penectomies. Ugh.
For me, the whole point of orgasm denial and chastity is that I retain the ability and the desire, and am only deprived of the means. Castration - barring the occasional and infrequent ability to orgasm - is like “permanent” chastity: if you know you’re going to be denied permanently, then your desire will eventually fade anyway. Without the desire, then what’s the point?

Tom, I like your distinction between the ability, desire, and means. Those are certainly distinct elements of controlling many things, not just orgasms.

I suppose if a man really wants his balls chopped off, thats one thing.
In reality though it is just fantasy. The idea of being deballed is the ultimate act of submission.

These are documented medical facts: if a boy’s testicles are removed before he attains his first erection, he will never be capable of normal erection. If a man’s testicles are removed after he attains his first erection, he will still have some (lessened) ability to achieve and maintain an erection without testicles.
The reason for this: the testicles are not the body’s only source of male hormone. The adrenal glands (located on top of the kidneys) produce testosterone (male hormone) in both men and women. Sometimes, the act of castrating a male dog or cat (or human?) will cause him to become MORE aggressive in the short term. That’s because his body, sensing the absence of his testes, realizes that his adrenal glands must now become the prime producers of testosterone. For a few days or weeks after castration, the adrenal glands actually go into overdrive and produce much more testosterone than usual.
Ever see an old woman with chin whiskers? After a woman goes into menopause, her ovaries no longer produce female hormones … but her adrenal glands continue to produce male hormone. In the absence of estrogen or progesterone as a female corrective, her body reacts to the testosterone from her adrenal glands, and she starts to grow a beard.
