The most common misconception that I have encountered has been when the title slave is used to describe an individual who is submissive, kinky or a bottom. A bottom is a masochist and/or one who delights in receiving discipline in one form or another from a Top, Dom or Sadist. A bottom is not necessarily a submissive or a slave. A submissive is one who takes pleasure in the act(s) of submitting to another and, cohesively, receiving domination from another. There are an infinite number of shades/levels/aspects of submission. There are submissives who are profound masochists and then there are submissives without any masochistic tendencies whatsoever. There are submissives who enjoy Total Power Exchange from a Dominant or Dominants; and sometimes this exchange is total while the session lasts, and sometimes beyond the time limits of a scene. Many submissives take offence at being considered a slave and some wrongly consider themselves to be slaves.
