On Having a UPC Barcode ...
» Miscellany
With Alexandra away I guess I have too much time on my hands. OK, there are useful things I could be doing rather than adding entries to this weblog.
When I discovered The Slave Register I couldn’t help but add myself.
Once again D/s and technology combine in a surprising way:
The Registration Number is suitable for encoding in a variety of permanent and semi-permanent markings, both electronic and visual. In particular, a UCC/EAN compliant barcode is displayed on each Register entry webpage. With a “keyboard wedge” barcode reader, it is possible to scan barcodes directly into the Registration Lookup Form and have the slave’s entry page displayed automatically.
Some people have tattoos of their barcodes. My first reaction was why would you want something that looks like it is from a package of frozen vegetables on your skin.
But I really shouldn’t mock people’s means of validating their need for slavery.
In looking about The Slave Register I was struck by the maintainer’s - Tanos - good sense and good humor.
Good humor:
Registration is free and will remain so (and yes, you can take The Slave Register just as seriously or as light heartedly as you feel comfortable with ;)
Good sense:
This kind of external validation is circular: other people take it seriously because other people take it seriously. For this reason, we started The Slave Register in January 2000 to try to jump start this kind of process. We’ve created a site that people can use to advertise their desire to find a Master or slave, and to publically record their Ownership when they find someone.
I suppose I could put my barcode on a t-shirt. It would be a private joke between Alexandra and myself.

I wonder what would happen if you tried to scan your tattoo at the check-out lane? (hehe)

There are several sites devoted to human pet / puppy play.
I’ve greatly enjoyed acting as my beloved’s pet. We’ve kept it pretty light. Perhaps at some point we’ll make it deeper and darker.
Dig around on Google and you’ll find some interesting - which is putting it mildly - human pet / animal role play sites.

Richard-
I commend you for not automatically deleting anyone who doesn’t agree with your contentions, or those who even might find this lifestyle offensive. I certainly do, I am not going to be disingenuous.
Barcodes are mere props, collars are props. Labia rings are props. They are all symbols. Symbols can mean anything you want them to mean. In and of themselves they are meaningless, they only have the power one accords them. Sometimes they may represent a free spirited sexual side of one’s libido, and sometimes they represent something much, much darker.
Props are fine, and some fun in the bedroom is fine, too. If someone wants to hang from the ceiling by their toenails while being forced to listen to an endless loop of Air Supply, rock on. Go for it. You’re not hurting anyone, and you’re not hurting yourself.
However, the need to take it outside the bedroom and make a psychological obsession out of it, live a life literally in chains, is another story.
I will never believe that someone who has the insatiable need to wholly dominate another human being doesn’t secretly feel utterly powerless. And I will never believe that a “slave” (lifestyle, not bedroom) doesn’t have a level of self-loathing and fear of life that most of us would have a hard time imagining.
As a woman who insists on being with a strong, dominant man, I understand how important it has become to celebrate maleness in a world that has tried to make men more like women (“sensitive” and androgynous) and what it feels like to be a woman in the presence of such a man, to bask in his quiet strength. What I do not understand is leaving one’s personhood behind for the guise and illusion of love and protection.
Best wishes to you.
