Responses to art

New relationships usually do, really should involve a shift in perceptions. Sharing another’s heart and mind should enrich yours.

Obvious to anyone whose looked at this site I’ve collected lots of F/m artwork. Put considerable time and Google searching into acquiring the images.

When Alexandra saw the faces on the Bill Ward women her first response was to object to their ugly faces. I’d never noticed. She’s right.

Ugly Domme

My what big … er … a big paddle you have.

Bill Ward’s art was easy to find. In my shop we’ve carried European BDSM erotica and his old drawings were used as illustrations. When I first found myself drawn to F/m S&M the were there to be viewed.

Not that I cared about the women or the men in the drawings. It was the scene. A whip cutting into the air lacerating a man’s buttocks.

Now that she’s pointed out what harridans the women are the power of his art is greatly diminished.

Whipping

I think we each in our different ways enjoy this Bilbrew cover. Blood, what blood?

Likewise she’s noticed details that that didn’t register with me: the Domina’s expression, the slave’s adoring look. Or that the bound man is wearing ballet slippers. Neither of us care for feminization. If I’d caught the slippers the picture would’ve been left on the web.

Or blood. One of the drawings I most enjoy has drops of blood oozing from the man’s scars. I’d never given that a second’s attention. It wasn’t that I was hankering for bloodied thighs. The drops didn’t register.

Mostly I still look past them. But in recollection I don’t remember seeing anything similar in the worst whipping photos. The blood is artistic license.

Beating

Impossible to chose my favorite Sardax illustration. I paid for access to his site. You should to if you are scouring the web for freebies.

We both enjoy Sardax’s work. For me it is the icy haughtiness. The enjoyment with which they exact what they require of the man (or ‘male creature’ as OWK would put it).

I could go on about the various F/m D/s artists whose work I enjoy. But you see them scattered across this website’s pages.

The other day I had a chance to look more closely at his work. We have a copy of the collection of his traditional glamour pin-up art at the shop. Perhaps if the softer lines and richer textures appeared in his F/m work I’d enjoy them more. Probably so. Though he uses black hosiery to the point of exhaustion. His girlie cartoons don’t strike me as that rich with wit. Probably one of the reasons that he wasn’t hired along with Arno and Vargas in the early days of Playboy.

Extreme

Gratutitous Vargas image included because this must be the closest he got to D/s.

You’ve probably never seen From Sex to Sexty. Envision if you will the most vulgar, sexist cartoons. Now take your imagination a couple of magnitude of orders lower. Bill Ward was a better draughtsman than most of their artists. Which says little. He wasn’t as good a cartoonist: his punch lines are a bit limp.

The latter cartoons were look much like his S&M work. Perhaps his fingers were failing or his spirit: he felt exploited. Or the low rate made him hasty.

Riding

I shamefully admit to still liking this. Being ridden, stilletos, a -thwack- … sigh. Yeah, she is ugly.

(To round this out: I’ve long been familiar with his comics work. His line while clean was never more than pedestrian. The humor never ascended above the obvious.)

By all account he was never ashamed of his S&M work. While not an admirer I’ll salute him for that.

If you are a Bill Ward fan you surely think I’m very wrongheaded. You can bitch at me in the comment form if you wish. Understand though this isn’t an issue of ‘truth’ but the personal crochets of erotic aesthetics.

Comments

Take that top picture. The spikes on that paddle would tear the man to shreds. To me it’s not convincing, sexy, or in any way desirable.

And women with the sexual charisma of The Incredible Hulk? A little unrefined anger is appropriate for a domme but he just takes it too far for my tastes.

Plus, the angles he chooses for things like the shoes and other details, are anappealing.

Glad you enjoy my work and thank you for the link and promotion (A little bird told me about your interesting blog) Do drop me a line sometime

Regards

Sardax

Well, I’m wondering if she’s ever shifted any of her “artistic impressions” to match yours, or is this all just a one-way thing? Female domination doesn’t mean the female is always right, and good relationships involve nurturing the other partner, not neutering him or her. It’s one thing for her to point out details in a picture you missed- this is a good, enriching thing. It’s another thing to let her tastes dictate yours.

When it comes to art, possibly she hasn’t. In the specific instance of BW I’d been aware of his art for many years. I looked at them differently until she pointed out the women’s faces. Hitherto I’d only registered the situation being depicted. I don’t know to what she was aware of him or any the other F/m artists until I started showing them to her. Likewise with the Bilbrew drawings the blood had been invisible to me until she noted it.

It isn’t any slight to her to say that I’m possibly more adaptable. This isn’t anything submissive. I’m more adaptable than most everybody else on the planet.

There’s plenty of mutuality, nurturing and affection in our relationship. D/s is a form of mutual exploration – as trite as that sounds – and play. I’m not cutout for lifestyle D/s, hence the “part time” in the site’s title.

Richard likes Trance music. Proof enough that we both have our own tastes in many areas :)

Well, thanks for the comments, Richard, Alexandra. I hope I didn’t seem too harsh, as if I’d already judged your relationship and found it wanting. I really was curious as I had never come across this particular phenomenon before. Best to you both, and I’ll be back :)

Not a problem. There are many stereotypes of F/m reltionships that don’t fit ours at all.

Your feelings?

Please share your feelings about Responses to art. Please stick to the topic of the entry. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
