The program that I’ve owned the longest is called Agent. It has been with me since Windows 3.1. It is a usenet newsreader. Most of you don’t know what a newsgroup is. If you’ve read them it has been as Google Groups.

Usenet newsgroups are discussion groups that were a part of the internet before the Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first HTML page and thereby created the web.

The newsgroup soc.subculture.bondage-bdsm.femdom was one of the first places where you could discuss F/m relationships online.

Erotic, Filthy, Sexy Fun for Submissive and Masochistic Men

Femdom Stories and Artwork

FEMDOMIC

Female Domination and Male Slavery. 100% Femdom

SENSUALSADIST.COM

No popups. Nothing to pay. I do this for fun. Think of me as a one-man F/m Tumblr site.

Over time it has grown rather quiet. The influx of AOL members and spammers drove many of the early participants away. A pity because I’ve never seen anywhere with a quality of discussion comparable to the old days.

I tend to post mostly on forums nowadays.

But I have nostalgia for the group. I lurked here a few years ago before I actually entered into a relationship that includes D/s. I learned quite a bit.

I particularly remember a woman in a long-term D/s relationship who hurt her husband for the first time and was surprised by how much she enjoyed it. It helped keep me mindful that dominance and sadism are things within which people often grow.

That kind of simple insight helped me keep the emotional realities distinct from my fantasies.

The more recently created alt.sex.femdom is pretty bad. But alt.women.supremacy is even worse.

The larger soc.subculture.bondage-bdsm continues to thrive. Well known BDSM writers like John Warren often participate. As does Janet Hardy of Greenery Press. And Midori’s friend who calls himself Philip the Foole and is anything but a fool.

The name of alt.torture forestalls any confusion about the group’s purpose. It is a mix of awful, odd and useful. The similarly named alt.sadistic is mostly a subset of the former.

Despite usenet’s decline given some newsgroups age their archives often remain useful sources. But it takes diligence and patience.
